I saw this segment on the news about the female gorilla (Timbo) at our zoo who had cataract surgery. Pretty amazing stuff. The surgeon is a people surgeon and said he was really nervous! The keeper said after the surgery, Timbo was happy to be back at her spot at the windows because she loved to see children, especially babies since she never had her own.
So, we went by on Friday afternoon to let her see our babies. She is so sweet and a little bit shy. When I took Cormac out of the stroller and stood him up to the window she walked over to sit by him. She'll look at the kids for just a minute and then turn away if they look at her too long. She liked the bigger kids too, but you can tell she really liked the little ones.
And he wasn't scared one bit. 
Dusting off this neglected blog again to say that I have been knitting again, just not posting. I still fall asleep on the couch most nights, but with the baby sleeping better and I am feeling more human, knitting occurs most nights. A few updates...

tion last spring. It's pretty cool yarn - hand spun, so there is variation in the weight and a little sparkle mixed in. It was hard to find a stitch that would show this feature of the yarn off, so I used the giant #35s! (Jim said I look like an elf when I work with those giant needles) Giant needles, big yarn... ta da! Scarf.
This little bunny is for my nephew to be (#4 for a total of 6 boys in that generation!). For some reason, I'm not crazy about the bunny, but we'll let the baby decide. It was a nice one-skein project to take a break from...
Jim's sweater continues to be a WIP, but I feel as though I might finish it before Global Warming deems it unnecessary. Just not in time for him to wear it during winter 2009. We've already missed the first ice storm! I finished the body up to the arms and working on the first sleeve. Maybe I am keeping it going just so I can look at the cute model in the picture often. That would sound bad except that he looks a lot like the real man I'm knitting for (without a beard of course).
I vowed to knit something small for the people who I did not get Christmas gifts too this year... we'll see about that since there are a couple sneaking up on me very soon. Stay tuned!
Cormac is not a squirrel, he's a mermaid. (Or, I guess I should say merman.) I tried finding a video from Splash to portray exactly what I'm talking about, but YouTube let me down. I have to post this follow up to one of my last finished projects. Baby jeans are even cuter on baby butts. This boy is such a chunk, I hope he can wear them again - if it ever gets cold enough!
Maybe it's the crisp fall air, a new job situation or a little more sleep now that Cormac is older, but I'm getting back to the knitting. I started my first new serious project since Cormac was born, inspired by all the trendy knit hats that are all over the fashion mags. The Zigzag beanie from Interweave to cover up messy hair. I might actually finish this one before the month is up. Although, I worked most of it during the Texas v. Tech game.... my gauge is probably way too tight...

Since my knitting is moving at a rapid rate of two rows a week, I didn't want my blog to gather digital cobwebs so I commissioned another artist. My knitting hero, Mom! She's knitting so much I told her she could start producing stuff to sell. But, she has too many grandsons who need knitted items.
This one's for the D man. Super D Man. From Vickie Howell's New Knits On the Block book. This book is awesome! There are so many cool things in there for kids - things they would like. I've worn the book out. At 3 1/2 the D man is in a developmentally appropriate superhero fettish. So, every super hero needs a cape.
